No. 10 Women’s Basketball Wins Battle of Top Ohio Athletic Conference Teams Over Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio - The No. 10 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team defeated the Otterbein Cardinals by a score of 67-52 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center. 

BW (17-2, 10-0 OAC) extended their conference win streak to ten games behind a balanced full team effort. The Cardinals were held under 36% from the field in each quarter, while the Yellow Jackets capitalized on assisted opportunities to come away with the win. 

BW Leaders (17-2, 10-0 OAC)

  • Junior forward Kayla Jones (Grove City) had a career best in both assists and rebounds, giving out five assists and collecting six rebounds 
  • Senior guard Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) led the Brown and Gold in blocks with four while adding six points and three rebounds
  • Junior guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) led the Yellow Jackets with 14 points while shooting 5-5 on free throws 
  • Senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) added 12 points and two assists 


Otterbein Leaders (13-5, 7-2 OAC)

  • Mattie Walburn led the Cardinals with 16 points 
  • Kiara Hudgins gave out a team-leading three assists
  • Madilyn Stechschulte and Cameron Sparks collected a team leading eight rebounds 


1st Quarter (23-17 BW)

  • Wilkerson shot 3-3 on free throws 
  • Sophomore guard Elise Champagne (Columbia Station/Columbia) gave out three assists
  • Miller totaled two blocks 


2nd Quarter (43-25 BW)

  • BW held the Cardinals scoreless for the first eight minutes of the quarter 
  • 18 of the Yellow Jackets' 20 points were assisted 
  • Jones recorded three assists


3rd Quarter (56-41 BW)

  • Riley scored seven points
  • McCoy and Wilkerson went 2-2 from the free throw line


4th Quarter (67-52 BW)

  • A layup from sophomore forward Delaney Garcia (Lakewood) extended the BW lead to 15
  • Jones recorded her fifth assist of the night

  • BW will travel to Marietta College on Saturday, January 31 for an OAC matchup with the Pioneers at 3:00 p.m. inside Ban Johnson Arena.
