SWANNANOA, N.C. - While the Owls jumped out to a fast lead, MC would quickly get on top and wouldn't relinquish the lead again. Over the first four minutes of the game, Warren Wilson took an 11-2 lead, but the Scots would go on a 20-3 run the rest of the quarter, and a 23-2 run over the first four minutes of the second quarter, amounting to an impressive 43-5 run over 10 minutes of gameplay.
The Scots outscored the Owls in the second quarter 25-9, but would then be outscored by 10 total points in the second half. An impressive outing for MC was solidified by their efficient play, shooting a terrific 45% from the floor and 43% from behind the arc.
The offense wasn't the total story for the Scots on the day, as they added an impressive smothering defensive performance. MC forced 19 turnovers on 11 steals, generating 21 points off turnovers. They also added five blocks and 17 second-chance points.
The leading scorer for Maryville was transfer guard Emily Wilson, who went for 26 points on 10-21 shooting, four rebounds, and two blocks. Kadence Stoner and Ella Tharpe tied for seven rebounds each, while Stoner also added three steals. Halle Kitchen had five assists, and Emily Allen had three blocks.
