CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's basketball team shot 67.4 percent from the floor to set an NCAA-era program record for single-game field goal percentage as the Red Dragons rolled past visiting Ithaca, 73-44, in a non-league contest.
 
Cortland (2-1), ranked seventh nationally by D3hoops.com, made 31-of-46 shots from the field. Since the NCAA era of the program began in the 1982-83 season, only twice previously had the Red Dragons shot better than 60 percent in a game - 62.5 percent in a home win over Utica/Rome in December of 2000 and 61.2 percent in a win at Fredonia in December of 2022.
 
The victory was Cortland's largest over Ithaca (1-1) since a 99-66 victory during the 1987-88 season.
 
Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) led Cortland with 15 points, hitting 6-of-8 shots from the field. Joleen Lusk (Cherry Valley/Cherry Valley-Springfield) made 5-of-6 shots and finished with 11 points, three assists and a team-high seven rebounds. Cadence Nicholas (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas) and Jackie Funk (Penfield) each scored nine points. Nicholas was 4-of-5 from the floor. Kaeli McAnally (Islip) added eight points on 3-of-4 shooting and led the team with five assists.
 
Madison Gill and Grace McNamara led Ithaca with 11 points each.
 
Cortland shot 75 percent in the first half, including a perfect 9-for-9 in the second quarter. The Red Dragons led 17-9 after one period and 37-20 at intermission. Cortland stayed hot in the third quarter, making 11-of-17 shots and outscoring the Bombers 24-11 to go up 61-31. The Red Dragons closed the game by hitting 5-of-9 shots in the fourth, including two Adriana Fontana (Endicott/Union-Endicott) 3-pointers. Cortland ended with a 48-12 advantage in points in the paint, but the Red Dragons did turn the ball over 22 times to Ithaca's 18 giveaways.
 
Cortland returns to action Nov. 21-22 at the Marietta (Ohio) Jim Meagle Classic. The Red Dragons will face nationally 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon on the first day and Washington & Jefferson on the second day in the predetermined format.
