William Paterson Women's Basketball Cruises to 82-49 Home Win Over Rutgers-Newark

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (14-9, 9-7 NJAC) cruised to an 82-49 home New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory over Rutgers-Newark (3-20, 1-15 NJAC) on Feb. 8 at the Sports and Recreation Center.


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers were in rhythm offensively right from the start and took a commanding 28-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of action. In the opening frame, William Paterson shot 59 percent (13-of-22) from the field while knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Senior Yakira Rosa led the way with 10 points.
  • The William Paterson lead only continued to grow and got as large as 34 (79-45) with 1:50 remaining in the fourth quarter before the Pioneers secured the resounding home victory.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Junior Brianna Smith shot 9-of-12 (.750) from the floor and 3-of-5 (.600) from deep for a team-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
  • It was her fifth 20-point performance of the season.
  • Rosa finished with 16 in the scoring column after shooting 7-of-11 (.636) from the field.
  • Senior Allison McBride posted her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Nine different Pioneers recorded a point against the Scarlet-Raiders.

  • The Pioneers will host Rutgers-Camden on Saturday, Feb. 11, for a Senior Day game slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Sports and Recreation Center.
