More news about: William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J. – Despite four Pioneers scoring in double figures, the William Paterson women's basketball team (11-6, 6-4 NJAC) fell 85-70 to Kean (9-8, 7-3 NJAC) at the Sports and Recreation Center on Jan. 18.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Cougars got off to a hot shooting start in the opening half and carried that momentum into the third quarter to grab a 52-36 lead with 8:24 on the clock. However, the Pioneers began to get into an offensive groove and outscored Kean, 18-7, over a stretch of 6:26 to trim the deficit to five (59-54).
  • That would be as close as William Paterson would get as the Cougars warded off any further damage and iced the game at the foul line to earn the road win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) extended her double-digit scoring streak to seven games after pouring in a team-best 17 points to go along with a team-high eight boards and four steals.
  • Junior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) finished the night with 16 points.
  • Freshman Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) logged 15 in the scoring column to pair with six rebounds.
  • Senior Yakira Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) recorded 11 points and five boards.
