Big Second Half by York Defeats Baruch

The Baruch College Bearcats lost 77-59 to the Cardinals of York College on Monday night in the ARC Arena.

The two teams played a competitive contest but the turning point took place in the third quarter.

With the score tied at 48, Mac-Dege Dessources scored a layup that started a game-busting 13-0 run by the Cardinals. The visitors owned the momentum in the final 10 minutes and had another big run of 16-4 to go on to record the victory.

The Bearcats shot only 26 percent (9-for-35) in the second half, while the Cardinals shot 60 percent (18-for-30).

Mia Castillo led three Bearcats in double-figure scoring with 21 points. Milly Ye had 13 and Melinda Spahiu 12 with a career-high 10 assists in the tough conference loss.


Dessources finished with 43 points and 25 rebounds for the visiting Cardinals.


Prior to the game, the Bearcats honored Natalie Ibelhaupt, Milly Ye, Valsenia Michie and Melinda Spahiu for their years of service to the women's basketball program.
