KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 14, 2021) – In what may be the only game of the season, the USMMA women's basketball team defeated visiting Yeshiva University on Sunday in a spectator-free Liebertz Gymnasium, overcoming a slow start to down the Maccabees, 66-44.
 
Before the game, the Mariners paid tribute to their two graduating seniors, Kathryn Kelley (Quantico, Va.) and Kiana Vega (El Paso, Texas), with a special Senior Day ceremony including surprise messages from their parents. To watch the ceremony over again, click here.

Two players recorded double-doubles for Merchant Marine, with Vega leading the way with 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds, while sophomore Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) registered 11 points and a game-high 12 boards. Vega also contributed four steals and tied for the team-best with three steals.
 
Junior Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and seven rebounds, while classmate Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.) added seven points off the bench. Junior Julia Dahlke (San Diego, Calif.) led all players in the game with six assists, scored four points and tied Vega with the team-best three steals.
 
Kelley finished with three points and three rebounds, and freshmen McKenzie Cassingham (Shasta Lake, Calif.) and Jalen Douglas (Waldorf, Md.) both scored their first career points, as Cassingham had four and Douglas drained one free throw. Sophomore Natalie Dorsey (Westminster, Md.) rounded out the scoring for the Mariners with two points.
 
For Yeshiva, sophomore Yuval Nitzman had a game-high 25 points and four steals as well as a team-best eight rebounds, supplying more than half of the Maccabees' offense. Freshman Shai Rahmim added six points and sophomore Kayla Motovich drained five off the bench.
