NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team closed out the 2015-16 season with a loss to Purchase, 85-67, at the ARC Arena on Saturday evening.
It was senior night, as Yael Anna Hausdorff, Dina Rubin, Eliana Levy, Julia Owen, Rachel Mirsky, and Ester Kerzner were honored with a ceremony during halftime.
Yeshiva came storming out of the gate, as Kerzner opened the game with a three-point field goal to give the Maccabees the lead. After the Panthers responded to take a 10-7 advantage, Owen drained a shot from downtown to tie the game with 4:19 remaining in the opening quarter. Down 12-10, junior forward Simee Rosner converted a layup while being fouled. She added the free throw to put Yeshiva back in front, 13-12. The Panthers closed out the quarter strong, scoring the last nine points of the stanza to take the lead for good, 21-12.
The Maccabees had a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Panthers 25-23. Sophomore guardShoshana Rozenberg hit two free throws with 20 seconds left. With one second remaining, classmate Andrea Weiss found Rozenberg, who converted a layup to the delight of her teammates and the fans.
For the game, Owen tied a game-high with 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double. She also dished out seven assists, forced four steals, and blocked one shot. Kerzner produced 14 points, while Rosner and Mirsky each added nine. Rubin produced five points, blocked three shots, and forced as many steals. Hausdorff scored two points, while junior guard Tess Blaustein dished out three dimes. Sophomore forward Michal Alge grabbed eight rebounds, while junior forward Gavriela Colton grabbed five boards.
