Maryville College's Lauren Trent
deposited a career-high 30 points to help the No.20 ranked Scots
defeat Meredith 77-50 in a key USA South challenge on Friday
evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
Maryville's defense forced a 29% shooting effort from the Avenging Angels in the first half while Trent and fellow senior Alex Bond shot 50% from long distance (7-for-14).
The Scots increased their percentage from the floor in the second half hitting 53% from the floor (18-for-34) while being perfect (9-for-9) from the charity stripe.
Meredith was held to 33% shooting on the evening while being out rebounded by the Scots 42-29.
Meredith (6-7, 5-2 USA South) was leading the northern division of the USA South before the match up. The Angels were led by Jessi Hayes' 11 points on 2-of-13 shooting. Danielle Lee and Raven Gregory each finished with nine points. Kim Hinton paced the visitors with six rebounds.
Maryville (14-1, 6-0 USA South) extends their win streak to 13 games with the victory. Trent surpassed her previous career high of 21 points, established against Emory and Covenant last season, while adding three assists and a steal to her line score. Sophomore Mindy Brackins hit 6-of-7 shots en route to a 16 point performance. Junior Mackenzie Puckett added a dozen points and five boards while senior Alex Bond hauled down a game-high eight rebounds while dishing out four assists.
The Scots will return to the floor tomorrow hosting Mary Baldwin College in another USA South challenge. Tip-off on Randy Lambert Court is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
