Millikin Women Win Second Straight

          The Millikin women's basketball team won its second straight game defeating North Park University 70-68 on Jan. 25 in Chicago, Ill.

          Millikin sophomore Alyssa Saklak hit the game winning basket with four seconds left to play on an assist from freshman Rachael Weber.  Saklak had 24 points to lead the Big Blue in scoring and added six rebounds.

          North Park led much of the first half and went into the locker room with a 34-31 advantage.  Millikin rallied in the second half and built a 10 point lead with seven minutes left to play.  The Vikings rallied and tied the game with under two minutes left to play. 

          Millikin shot 45.5 percent from the field compared to 43 percent for North Park.  Millikin out rebounded the Vikings 37-31.

          Jasmine Johnson was second in scoring for Millikin with 10 points along with a team high eight rebounds and three steals.

          Lez Rehberger led North Park with 18 points and Soly Roman had 17 points and nine rebounds.

          Millikin improves to 8-20, 2-5 while North Park goes to 10-8, 3-4.

          Millikin will host Illinois Wesleyan on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.  The game will be the first two "pink" games for the Big Blue.  Millikin Head Coach Lori Kerans and Titans Head Coach Mia Smith are both breast cancer survivors making Wednesday's game the perfect way to start Millikin's breast cancer awareness week.  The Big Blue will continue their awareness efforts and raise money for Decatur's Come Together Let's Walk on Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. when they host Elmhurst.
