Decatur, Ill. – The Millikin Women's Basketball team came up short again as they lost to the 14th ranked Carthage College Lady Reds 63-73 on Saturday January 18 that at the Griswold Center.
Carthage was a force to be reckoned with as they came out early with a 12-2 lead. The Big Blue were able to pull within three. The Lady Reds took a 16-point lead with three minutes remaining in the first half. The Big Blue were able to narrow that to 11 points at the half as they trailed 32-21.
Millikin shot 35 percent on the night and was 5-16 in three-pointers. The Big Blue had 38 rebounds on the night just two shy from the Lady Reds' 40. Millikin was strong at the free-throw line going 12-of-15.
Jasmine Johnson led the Big Blue with 17 points and eight rebounds. Yip Ypya put up 12 points.
Millikin fall to 6-10 overall and 0-5 in the CCIW. Carthage improves to 14-2 overall and 5-0 in the CCIW which puts them in a first-place tie with Illinois Wesleyan.
The Big Blue will get back to CCIW action this coming Wednesday January 18, as they host Augustana College in a CCIW matchup at Griswold Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
