MADISON, Wis. – Take away the first four minutes of each half and the Edgewood College women's basketball team hung right with the fourth ranked team in the nation. UW-Whitewater took advantage of the Eagles' shaky starts to each half and Edgewood College fell 91-71 on Saturday afternoon in the Todd Wehr Edgedome.

Four Eagles' turnovers helped the Warhawks run out to a 12-2 run to start the game, but Edgewood College would not fold easily. Two free throws by UW-Whitewater's Kaitlyn Thill gave the Warhawks their largest lead of the half at 18, but Rachel Pope converted an and-one to spark a 12-2 Edgewood College run and cut the deficit to eight. More free throws allowed UW-Whitewater to regain a double-digit lead, but Pope andDareon Henderson hit back-to-back baskets to climb within seven. The Eagles had a chance to cut it to four but Pope's triple just missed and the Warhawks capitalized with a three-pointer of their own to grab a 48-38 lead at the break.

Coming out of the locker room, UW-Whitewater connected on their first three possessions for a 7-0 run before Chelsey Watkins converted a layup to end the rally. The Eagles tried all they could to chip away at the deficit, making 16 of their 19 second half free throws, but UW-Whitewater was too strong inside, outscoring Edgewood College 22-10 in the paint after the break.

In the first seven and a half minutes of the first and second half combined, Edgewood College allowed UW-Whitewater to outscore them 21-4 which set the pace the rest of the way. The Eagles hit a season-high 25 free throws (80.6 percent) while the Warhawks were 48.5 percent from the floor and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Hill led three Edgewood College players in double figures with 17 while Watkins and Pope joined her at 14 and 13, respectively. Henderson and Brooke McBain each had eight points and a team-high five rebounds.

The Eagles will return to their NACC schedule next Saturday as they welcome Benedictine University to the Edgedome for a 4:15 p.m. tipoff. Live coverage will be provided onEdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
