LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. (February 18, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology equestrian team began the 2012 portion of its schedule with a fourth-place finish at the Marist College Show at the Crosswinds Equestrian Center on Saturday. Freshman Jessica Spanier Chester, N.J.) posted a pair of second-place rides at the intermediate level to lead the Ducks.
Stevens was close to the top of the leaderboard, finishing with 24 team points. The winners, from Centenary College, finished with 30 points in an extremely tight week in the standings.
Spanier earned second-place rides at both intermediate flats and over fences. She was the flat point rider. Her classmate, Carley Mattucci (Lafayette, N.J.) was also second over intermediate fences as a point rider and took fifth at intermediate flat.
Alexa Policari (Tinton Falls, N.J.) had a good day at the novice level, posting a second-place point ride over fences and a third-place point ride in flat. Emily DiGiovanna (Merrick, N.Y.) took sixth in novice flat. Policari pointed up over fences and will compete at Regionals in March.
The Ducks had a pair of good rides in walk-trot-canter, as Ellie Kim (Mequan, Wisc.) took second and Michelle Plotzker (Fairport, N.Y.) took third in the Stevens point ride at that level.
At walk-trot, Elisa Iribarne (Syracuse, N.Y.) earned the team a point with a sixth-place finish there.
The Ducks will wrap up the regular season next weekend at the All-Region Show at Briarwood Farm in Readington.
