LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Occidental, last seasons conference champions, handed the Caltech women's basketball team an 83-27 loss on Thursday evening in the SCIAC opener for both teams.

The Beavers (0-12, 0-1) fell behind 7-0 in the game's opening moments but responded with an 8-5 scoring spurt aided by a pair of Marlyn Moore three-pointers. After Moore's second shot from deep, Occidental called a timeout after their lead shrunk to 12-8 with 12:28 left until halftime.

The home squad proceeded to grab all the game's momentum as they closed the half on a 22-7 scoring spree to take a 34-15 lead into the locker room.

Occidental (8-2, 1-0) opened the second frame by scoring 25 of the first 28 points and holding the Beavers without a field goal for the first 7:36 of the stanza to put the game out of reach.

During their second half scoring exploits, the Tigers shot 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from the field.

Moore nailed three of her four attempts from behind the arc in helping her score a team best 11 points. Teri Juarez continued to play strong down low as she grabbed a game high eight rebounds.

The Occidental duo of Stefanie Young and Ashton Reid came off the bench to score 12 points each to take home game high honors.
