CCNY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM SEES SEASON END WITH 75-41 QUARTERFINAL ROUND LOSS TO BARUCH

The No. 1 seeded Bearcats of Baruch College won their 10th consecutive CUNYAC postseason game and advanced to the semifinal round of the 2011 CUNYAC Women's Basketball Tournament by defeating the Beavers of the City College of New York by a score of 75-41 in a vintage performance at the ARC Arena. With the victory, Baruch will battle the John Jay College Bloodhounds on Tuesday evening at the Nat Holman Gymnasium at 6:00pm, while CCNY finalized its season at 5-21 overall.

Baruch College shot a blistering 48 percent in the first 20 minutes of action, and went into the locker room leading the contest by a score of 44-23. The Bearcats allowed just 18 second half points and cruised to a 34-point victory.

Monique Salmon led the way for Baruch College with 13 points, nine assists, and three steals, while standout Camille Voitot also contributed with 12 points on the afternoon. Karyn Purcell had herself a very productive afternoon as well, finishing with 11 points, four assists, and three steals, and Megan Bouwens and Jessica Duleba dropped in 10 points apiece.

Despite the loss for City College it was Syreeta Williams finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Sajidah Pressley added eight points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Baruch College won the turnover battle in convincing fashion, as the Bearcats forced 31 Beaver miscues while committing just 15 turnovers of their own. Baruch dished 19 assists to CCNY's eight and tallied 20 steals compared to six for City College. The teams were almost even in the rebounding department, with the Bearcats holding a slight 43-42 edge.
