"This was a total team effort and I'm very proud of my team," said Pride Head Coach Randy Tuggle. "We stuck with--and executed--our game plan. All 10 players who got in the game contributed positively for us."

As expected, the highly touted Captains made a late run. Two-time CNU All American Chelsie Schweers (game-high 20 points) made a three-pointer with 1:08 left that cut the deficit to 62-57. Schweers then hit an off-balance jumper just short of the three-point line to cut the margin to 62-59 with 46 seconds remaining, but the visitors got no closer.
The game was played before a Hanes Gym crowd of 750. It was GC's "Pride Packs the Place" for basketball and the game was the first ever women's hoops game between ranked teams at GC.
Kimmy Hopkins added 10 points for CNU (15-2, 9-1). The two rivals play again on Feb. 19 in Newport News, Va.
The Pride next hosts Methodist on Friday night.
