The Millikin women's basketball team opened play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a 68-59 win at Elmhurst College. Millikin is now 9-3, 1-0 while Elmhurst goes to 5-7, 0-1.
The story of the game for the Big Blue was the stellar debut of transfer junior Heather Pruemer who scored a game high 20 points off the Millikin bench. Pruemer's role took center stage in the first half when three fouls sent Crystal Zeigler to the bench for most of the half and the Elmhurst defense clamped down on Millikin's go to scorer Elise Wildman. Pruemer answered the call with 10 first half points.
Julia Robert has 14 points and Wildman finished with 10 points and a team high 10 rebounds. Olya Cholewick had nine points and eight assists.
Elmhurst's top scorer was Megan Ney with 17. Kim Schwerdtmann added 16.
Millikin shot 52 percent from the field and held the Bluejays to 34 percent shooting. Elmhurst out rebounded Millikin 32-30.
Millikin broke a 19-19 tie with 5:28 left in the first half and lead the rest of the game. The Big Blue had a 34-23 advantage at the half and built a lead as large as 13 in the second half.
Millikin will be at North Park on Saturday at 2 p.m.
