KERRVILLE, Texas - Shelly Kilcup scored 23 points for Pacific Lutheran but it wasn't enough as the Lutes fell to Schreiner University, 65-62, in a non-conference women's basketball game played Wednesday afternoon. 

Kilcup came off the bench to shoot 6-for-7 from three-point range on the way to tying her single-game collegiate high. She tallied 23 points in losses at Seattle Pacific and Chapman last year.

Melissa Pixler shot 4-for-5 from long range in scoring 15 points and Samantha Potter added 10 points in support of Kilcup. The Lutes were 10-for-14 from beyond the three-point arc but still came up short in dropping to 3-6 for the season.

Schreiner, which improved its record to 2-6, won the game at the foul line, shooting 15-for-18 while the Lutes took just 10 foul shots, making six. Lia Phillips scored 14 points to lead Schreiner, followed by Julissa Garrett and Olivia Swarner with 13 points each. Kristy Guerra hit all eight of her free throws and finished the game with 12 points.

PLU took a 17-15 lead with 12 minutes remaining on a three-point basket by Kilcup, but by halftime Schreiner held a 33-29 advantage.

The hosts twice led by 11 points in the second half, but the Lutes battled back to tie the game at 51-51 on Mahlet Tingley's jumper with 5:36 to play. PLU took its only lead of the second half on Pixler's basket with 1:48 showing on the clock.

Schreiner scored five straight points on free throws, four by Guerra, to go on top 63-59. Kilcup hit another three-point shot to pull the Lutes to within a point with 12 seconds left, but Guerra added two more free throws with seven seconds remaining. PLU had one more possession but turned the ball over.

The Lutes return to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, when they host Wisconsin-Stevens Point in Olson Auditorium.
