ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Melissa Alwardt scored 17 points, including five three-point goals, and led five players in double figures as the University of Rochester defeated Ithaca College, 92-50, in the semifinals of the Chuck Resler Tournament at the Palestra.
Danielle McNabb and Loren Wagner scored 12 points apiece for Rochester (1-1). Amy Woods and Jodie Luther had 10 points. Rochester held a commanding 43-24 edge on the backboards and shot 64% for the game. The Yellowjackets hit 36 of 56 from the field, 12 of 19 outside the arc (63%). Six players made at least one three-pointer.
Ithaca (1-1) did not have a double figure scorer. The Bombers were led by Kathryn Campbell with nine points. Riley Dunns cored eight points. Jacqueline Shinall and Jessica Farley scored seven points each. Ithaca made six of 27 from the floor (22%) in the first half and shot 25% for the game (15 of 59).
Rochester used a lengthy 17-4 run over 5:25 to build a 36-16 lead. Alwardt had nine of the points. The remaining eight points came from three different post players.
On Saturday, Ithaca will play Mount St. Mary's College in the 3 pm third place game. Rochester will play Montclair State for the title. Montclair defeated Mount St. Mary's, 72-65.
