Potsdam, NY – A 9-0 run in the final 90 seconds of the contest allowed Rensselaer to escape with a 75-66 win over the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights concluded their season with a record of 11-14 overall and 6-12 in the Liberty League, while the Engineers claimed the top seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament at 20-5 overall and 16-2 in conference play.

Aydin Kocak started the game with an opening possession 3-pointer, which turned out to be the message of the first half. Both teams shot well from the perimeter as each made seven 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes of the contest with RPI going 7-for-12 and Clarkson 7-for-14. The difference turned out to be what each team did outside of those as the Engineers were a respectable 6-for-11 inside the arc but Clarkson struggled to go just 2-for-11 on shorter attempts. Clarkson's last lead was at 12-11 following one of those close makes, a Nate Abernethy layup, but back-to-back 3-point plays from Yeichel Stewart, one from beyond the arc and one coming on a layup-and-one, put the Engineers on top. The two teams were tied briefly at 21-21 with 6:15 remaining, but the rest of the period was a show of 3-point prowess. The Engineers saw four different players make long-range shots, and Clarkson had three of its players also convert on shots from distance.

In the second half, Clarkson narrowed the gap to just three points off a 3-pointer from Tyson Maxam at 15:36, but the Engineers responded with a 9-3 run, capped by a layup from PJ Scalisi at 11:20 to put the margin back up to nine points. Five minutes later, the Knights again trimmed the deficit to three, only to see the Engineers continually have an answer for every basket that Clarkson made. That changed for a brief time late in the contest as the Knights scored six straight to tie the game, capped by a 3-pointer from Steve DeRegis with 2:25 to go. Clarkson had a chance to take the lead late in the game from the free throw line, but a pair of misses gave RPI the window it needed, with Andrew Deppe converting on the right side with a layup and then knocking down a free throw after the foul. Yeichel Stewart scored on a strong take on the next possession for RPI and Clarkson was unable to respond at the other end, falling behind by five and then by a few more on free throws to close out the contest.

Junior Tyson Maxam scored a career-best 23 points, going 6-for-11 from beyond the 3-point arc to lead all scorers. Braeden Burns tossed in 13 points and both Nate Abernethy and Aydin Kocak knocked down nine points for Clarkson.

Four finished in double figures for RPI, led by Billy Feeks and his 17 points on 4-for-8 shooting. Yeichel Stewart tossed in 16 points on 5-for-9 shooting and Kellen Driscoll chipped in 13 on 5-for-9 shooting. Andrew Deppe had a solid all-around game with 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, going 5-for-8 from the field.
