ROCHESTER, NY - The Nazareth men's basketball team earned a hard fought 80-68 victory over Alfred on Friday night to extend its win streak to seven games. Jaylen Savage, Jordan Haggard, and Logan Blankenberg each scored 17 points in the win.
The Golden Flyers improve to 14-6 on the season and 11-1 in Empire 8 play, while Alfred falls to 8-11 overall and 5-5 in conference action.
Savage scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half, but the Golden Flyers trailed 30-25 at halftime. To go along with his 17 points, Savage had 10 rebounds and four assists. It was his second double-double of the season.
Haggard started the second half off strong with a pair of buckets and a three-pointer from Tyler Putney gave the Golden Flyers the lead for good at 37-36 at the 14:45 mark.
Nazareth maintained a lead over Alfred for the remainder of the half,and an electric 3-pointer from Solomon McFarlane with 1:12 remaining in the game pushed a 6-point lead to 74-65 and helped seal the victory. Nazareth was red-hot in the second half shooting nearly 71 percent at 17-for-24, including 5-for-6 from 3-point land. McFarlane finished with 10 points.
Putney ended with 11 points, including 3-for-5 from distance, while Jack Broderick contributed eight points and nine rebounds.
Nazareth will be back in action at home Saturday against Elmira at 4 pm.
