KERRVILLE, TX - The Mississippi College men's basketball team dropped their second straight game to open the season with a 76-60 loss to Schreiner on Monday night at Edington Gymnasium.
The Choctaws (0-2, 0-2 ASC) opened the game strong, taking a 16-12 lead with 10:51 remaining on a basket by sophomoreBrandon Blake. The Mountaineers (2-2, 1-1 ASC) answered with a 10-0 run and never trailed again.
In the second half, MC showed some life, cutting the lead to 47-40 with 13:24 remaining after falling behind by as many as 19 points.
Senior Trevon Malone led the Choctaws with 17 points on 8-15 shooting from the floor. Seniors Chad Jones and Greg Pulliam also scored in double-digits with 11 and 10, respectively.
The Choctaws shot 50% from the floor (26-52), but took 16 less shots than Schreiner, who shot 43% (29-68).
Freshman Travis Pflughaupt led Schreiner with 25 points and 15 rebounds, making 11 of his 18 shots. AJ Myres scored 21 points on 8-16 shooting.
The Choctaws will play their season opener on Thursday night when they host Sul Ross State at 7:30 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
