No. 7 Amherst edged No. 13 Williams 67-65 in the first of two regular season meetings. Amherst built a 13-point lead five minutes into the second half before the Ephs started their rally. Williams held Amherst to just seven points over the next 10 minutes and pulled within one possession. With Williams trailing 65-64 and 14 seconds remaining, Taylor Epley was fouled and had a chance to give the Ephs the lead. He made the first free throw but missed the second and Amherst's Taylor Barisse grabbed the rebound. On the ensuing Amherst possession, Aaron Toomey was fouled and hit both free throws. Williams missed the potential game winning three pointer.
This game was part of the teams' Little Three rivalry but it doesn't count in the conference standings. The teams will meet again in Amherst on February 10 in the game that counts toward NESCAC results.
No. 17 UW-Stevens Point defeated No. 2 UW-Whitewater 71-60 to end the Warhawks' nine game winning streak and sweep the regular season series. UW-Stevens Point hit four straight shots, including two threes, to turn a five-point deficit into a five-point lead they wouldn't relinquish. That result, coupled with UW-River Falls' 72-50 win at UW-Stout, creates a three-way tie for first in the WIAC.
"They weren't at their best tonight," Pointers coach Bob Semling told D3sports.com's Jason Galleske. "I thought we came in a little more determined after a tough loss at home and we're a game behind and our backs were against the wall. They had to fight through the injury with Chris Davis and their rotations. We know we probably didn't catch them at their best, but we have so much respect for Whitewater."
Michael Cooper hit a trio of three pointers in a 76-second span to lift Wittenberg over DePauw 66-62. Wittenberg sits atop the NCAC at 8-1 while DePauw drops into a four-way tie for second place. DePauw is joined by Wooster, Ohio Wesleyan and Wabash. In a meeting of the latter two, the Battling Bishops knocked off the Little Giants 66-64.
Randolph-Macon rolled past Roanoke 87-62 for its 10th straight win. The Yellow Jackets are in a virtual tie for first in the ODAC with No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan, which roughed up Eastern Mennonite 92-65.
No. 6 MIT rebounded from Saturday's loss with a 64-46 win over Clark. The Engineers are tied for first in the NEWMAC with Springfield after the Pride beat WPI in dramatic fashion 65-63 in overtime. Check back in a bit for the buzzer beater video.
Medaille shot 50.0 percent from the field and needed every shot to beat Pitt-Bradford 74-72. Keystone ran its win streak to 11 by beating Gwynedd-Mercy 100-82. Kenneth Hardnett had 19 points and 18 rebounds for the Giants. Christopher Newport's streak is one win better. The Captains topped Averett 91-72 for their 12th straight win. And Lake Forest is even hotter. The Foresters blitzed Illinois College 71-47 for their 15th straight win, setting a new program record. Despite St. Thomas' struggles, the Tommies still lead the MIAC by a game, a lead they preserved by beating Hamline 89-73.
