Five of the eight games played so far in UAA men's basketball this season have been decided by one basketball, one more by four and one by six and the nailbiters continued on Friday night, in upset fashion.

No. 13 Brandeis got off to a hot start on the road at Carnegie Mellon but couldn't continue as the Tartans rallied to win 53-52. Freshman Christian Manoli blocked the shot of Ben Bartoldus to seal the win with less than three seconds remaining.

Brandeis' travel partner, NYU, suffered a similar fate, as the No. 25 Violets fell 80-76 at Case Western Reserve. A freshman came up big at home for the Spartans as well, as guard Tim Chung scored a career-high 17 points in the victory. Case improved to 6-7 with its fourth win in five games.

Middlebury trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half, 47-32, before rallying on the road. Jake Wolfin converted a three-point play to the tie game at 54-54 and the No. 5 Panthers went on to finish with a 17-0 run to win 79-63 at Tufts.

Thomas Tibbs scored the winning basket as time expired to lift Staten Island over Baruch 109-107 in triple overtime. He'd also beaten the buzzer in the second overtime to extend the game. Tibbs played 51 minutes, scoring 31 points with seven assists. K.C. Wiser scored 39 points, including a tip-in with 1.5 seconds left, to lift Linfield to a 94-92 double-overtime win at Pacific. In women's action, Chicago took down another No. 5 team, crushing fifth-ranked Rochester 87-59 to improve to 10-3 on the season, 2-0 in the UAA. Illnois College snapped St. Norbert's nine-game winning streak, knocking off the No. 17 Green Knights 59-52. The Lady Blues held St. Norbert to 17-for-52 shooting from the floor. Goucher won its first game of the season against 11 defeats, overcoming 26 turnovers to win 55-51 at Drew.
