Ravens survive another nail-biter

Several ranked teams stayed hot and won big games on the road on Wednesday night. No. 1 UW-Stevens Point used an 11-0 run sandwiched around halftime to defeat UW-Eau Claire, 74-68. All five starters reached double figures for the Pointers. No. 11 Anderson turned a one-point deficit into a two-point victory in the closing moments of its game at Manchester, 77-75. Andrew Bowman's layup gave the Ravens a 76-75 lead with 14 seconds left and Manchester missed a jumper with three seconds left.

No. 21 William Paterson extended its win streak to 15 by beating nearby rival Montclair State 54-43. No. 16 St. Mary's (Md.) took over first in the CAC with a win at Hood, 65-54. More Wednesday's men's scores.

&&g-boxl&&Not all ranked teams kept their winning streak intact, however. Andrew Jahns' putback with one second left gave host Wheaton (Ill.) a dramatic 66-65 win over No. 17 Illinois Wesleyan. Watch the ending on our Buzzer Beaters page. Moments before Jahns' game winner Sean Johnson hit a three-pointer to give the Titans a 65-64 lead. The CCIW race now has tri-leaders as Carthage won at North Central (Ill.) 85-71 and North Park took care of Elmhurst 58-53 to join Illinois Wesleyan at 4-1 in conference play.

Pomona-Pitzer was on the wrong end of two other Wheaton (Ill.) buzzer beaters earlier this season, but tonight the Sagehens got a little bit of revenge. Adam Chaimowitz hit a three-pointer as time expired to lift Pomona-Pitzer past Cal Lutheran 68-66. The Kingsmen fell to 7-8, 1-3 in the SCIAC.

It was another night and another Top 25 showdown in the ODAC. No. 12 Virginia Wesleyan beat No. 3 Randolph-Macon 72-69 in Ashland behind Stephen Fields' 31 points. Fields converted six of eight free-throw attempts in the final two minutes to preserve the Marlins' narrow lead. No. 2 Guilford took care of Bridgewater (Va.) 79-67 behind the dynamic duo of Clay Henson (28 points) and Tyler Sanborn (17 points, 19 rebounds).

Some nights, no matter what you try, nothing works. So it went for McDaniel which played 14 guys but none scored more than seven points as Gettysburg stymied the Green Terror 62-37. Jerald Williams scored just one point for Lycoming but he dished out 10 assists in the Warriors' 89-74 victory over Elizabethtown.
