A two-game losing streak is modest in any circumstances and even more so when it comes against Division I power Gonzaga and the two-time defending Division III champs Washington U. But No. 18 Augustana halted that streak and improved to 6-2 in region by beating No. 24 Chicago, 59-47.
The Vikings never trailed after jumping out to an early 8-2 lead. Chicago cut the deficit to one a couple times in the first half but Augustana pushed the lead back to six at the half and built it as high as 19 in the second half. The Vikings held the Maroons to 17 field goals and benefited from 28 Chicago turnovers.
No. 3 UW-Whitewater reached the double-digit mark for victories by rolling Carroll 88-62. Dustin Mitchell paced the Warhawks with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Jeff Hoch scored 24 points for the Pioneers. UW-Whitewater's next game will be against Augustana next Tuesday. Paige Sever led the Scots with 15 points and six rebounds while Bianca Richburg notched 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Pride. No. 9 Marymount enjoyed some fun in the sun with a 66-58 victory over Adrian in the Cruzin' Classic in Fort Lauderdale. Case Western made it seven in a row by beating Hiram 85-56.
