Points a plenty

No. 2 Wheaton (Ill.) missed setting a new school record for points by one, but scored more than enough to defeat Grinnell 130-109. The Thunder did set a school record for field goal percentage in shooting 80 percent (52-for-65) in a game in which they took Grinnell out of its System for stretches. The Pioneers (5-3) scored just eight points in the first eight minutes of the second half, turning the ball over once with one second left on the shot clock, while the Thunder broke the press in the second half seemingly at will.

Wheaton finished its non-conference schedule 11-0 and will open CCIW play on Wednesday against current No. 16 Illinois Wesleyan. Will the Thunder rise to the top of the Top 25 this week? No. 3 St. Thomas made its case to be No. 1 by routing Macalester 95-45. Current No. 1 UW-Platteville defeated UW-Stout 71-57, improving to 4-0 in the WIAC.

Anderson narrowly missed upsetting UW-Platteville and Washington U. earlier this year, but the Ravens took down No. 7 Elmhurst 97-92. Mike Russell scored 30 points and Andrew Jones tallied 18 points and 8 rebounds. No. 9 Augustana opened its conference schedule with a win, beating North Park 70-53. More men's scores from Saturday.

&&f-boxl&&Clay Scoville scored off an offensive rebound with two seconds left to lift Franklin & Marshall (9-0) past Susquehanna 81-79. McMurry ended No. 23 Texas-Dallas� undefeated start 64-61. York (NY) did the same by rolling Millikin 88-68 at Christopher Newport. The Cardinals were just 2-10 before the surprising rout.

Dave Madeira won his 300th game as the head coach of Muhlenberg by virtue of the Mules' 77-68 victory over Hood. Mike Griffin tied RPI's all-time record for victories with 296 as the Red Hawks handled CCNY 80-41. Jim Smith is approaching his 700th win at St. John's, reaching No. 691 with a 77-67 win against St. Mary's (Minn.).

Like Amherst and Mass.-Dartmouth earlier this week, Tufts flew to California and came home with a win over the SCIAC. The Jumbos defeated Cal Lutheran 74-69. Eastern Mennonite continued its impressive start, improving to 7-3, 3-0 in the ODAC with a one-point win at Hampden-Sydney. Jimmy Bartolotta scored 32 points in 35 minutes but it wasn't nearly enough to lift MIT past Yale.
