MWC teams sink pair of D-IIs

St. Norbert beat Northern Michigan for the first time since 1980, upending the Division II school 59-50 in overtime, while Midwest Conference rival Lawrence defeated Division II Nova Southeastern in Florida.

Lawrence got a career-high 31 points from Ryan Kroeger as the Vikings (5-1) won 73-60. Eric Bieniasz hit an off-balance three-pointer with 37 seconds left to give St. Norbert (3-5) a 44-42 lead late in regulation and a pair of free throws in the extra period as part of his game-high 21 points.

Ben Strong scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds and Guilford outrebounded Shenandoah 42-30, but the Quakers lost on the road 64-62. Monday night's men's scores.

Caltech beat a Division III opponent for the second consecutive season as Matthew Dellatorre scored 23 points and Bryan Hires added 22 to go along with 11 rebounds in a 72-58 win against Gallaudet. Travis Haussler added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Caltech finished with a 19-2 run after trailing 56-53.

Carthage handed the No. 22 Trinity (Texas) men their first loss of the season behind 19 points from Steve Djurikovic. "Trinity is going to win 20 or 21 games," said Carthage coach Bosko Djurikovic. "They don't play in a league that's as good as the CCIW, so when we make a trip like this, we expect to succeed. Half a loaf isn't good enough. We have a chance to finish this trip 2-0, and that's what we want."

William Smith knocked off women's No. 16 George Fox 61-58 in a tournament in California, surviving a 20-5 run in the process. Mount St. Mary beat Scranton for the second year in a row, this time doing it in the John J. Long Center. The Royals fell 64-61 after shooting 7-for-19 from the line. Monday's women's scores.
