Dominican announced it has hired Mike Lane as the head women's basketball coach and assistant facilities manager.
Lane comes to Dominican after serving two years as an assistant coach with the University of Chicago women's program. Prior to Chicago, Lane helped lead the Francis W. Parker High School boys' basketball team to consecutive league titles and the program's first regional championship.
“We are excited about the experience that Mike brings with him to Dominican,” said Mark White, assistant director of athletics and recreation and head men's basketball coach. “He has experienced great success as an assistant coach and we feel that he is ready to be the head coach at the collegiate level.”
During his tenure at Chicago, Lane helped guide the Maroons to the winningest two-year campaign since the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons as the program posted a 35-15 mark and climbed up the D3hoops.com poll all the way to No. 4.
With the Maroons, Lane assisted in the national recruitment of high school prospects, including a freshman class in 2006 that hailed players from across the nation, Pennsylvania to California. His responsibilities also included post player development, game planning and scouting. In 2006-2007, Lane helped the Maroons place nationally in rebounding margin (No. 4) and field goal percentage defense (No. 23).
“I would like to thank Dominican University for this opportunity,” said Lane. “I can't wait to work with the returning players and build a program worthy of this fine university. I'd also like to thank Aaron Roussell and the coaches, players and administration of the University of Chicago for their support."
Lane is a 1993 graduate of Notre Dame (Ind.) where he earned a bachelor's degree of business administration in marketing.
A native of South Windsor, Conn., Lane resides in Chicago with wife, Jill, and son, Ollie.
