Dzik's replacement out after two years

More news about: Cabrini

Cabrini athletic director Leslie Danehy announced today that men's basketball coach Matthew Macciocca's contract will not be renewed for the 2007-08 season.

After starting the season 1-14, the Cavaliers finished 5-20, 4-14 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play this season. Cabrini's season ended last night with a loss at Gwynedd-Mercy. In two seasons as Cabrini's men's coach Macciocca went 16-34 overall, 12-24 in the conference, and the two seasons are the only back-to-back losing seasons in the program's history.

Macciocca replaced John Dzik, whose coaching contract was not renewed after the 2004-05 season, after a career in which Dzik went 476-207. Dzik is now athletic director at Division III Piedmont.

No previous Cabrini men's basketball team ever won fewer than 11 games.

"I appreciate coach Macciocca's contribution to the college over the last two years," Danehy said. "However, I have decided to move in a new direction with the leadership of our men's basketball program. I will be conducting a national search to fill the position beginning immediately."
